Your Ultimate Guide on How to Survive a Long-Haul Flight: Top Tips and Tricks

Introduction

Long-haul flights can be both exciting and daunting, especially if you're embarking on a journey to a distant destination. While the anticipation of new adventures awaits you, enduring hours in a confined space can be quite challenging. But fear not! In this comprehensive guide, we'll equip you with essential tips and tricks to not only survive but also enjoy your long-haul flight. Let's explore how to make the most out of this travel experience!

1. **Choose Your Seat Wisely for Comfort**

One of the first things to consider is your seat selection. Opt for an aisle seat if you prefer to move around more freely during the flight. However, if you enjoy the views and want to rest your head, a window seat might be a better fit. Moreover, consider booking seats near the front of the plane to reduce noise and turbulence impact.

2. **Pack Your Carry-On Essentials**

Your carry-on bag can be your best friend during a long flight. Pack it strategically with must-haves such as a neck pillow, eye mask, noise-canceling headphones, and a cozy blanket to ensure a comfortable rest. Don't forget to include your entertainment essentials, like a tablet or e-reader, loaded with your favorite movies, books, and music.

3. **Stay Hydrated and Snack Smartly**

Airplane cabins can be dehydrating, so it's crucial to drink plenty of water throughout the flight. Bring a refillable water bottle and ask the flight attendants to top it up regularly. Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, as they can contribute to dehydration. Pack healthy snacks like nuts, granola bars, and fresh fruit to keep hunger at bay without relying on in-flight meals alone.

4. **Dress for Comfort and Layer Up**

Comfortable clothing is a must for a long-haul journey. Opt for loose-fitting, breathable attire that allows you to move freely and adjust to temperature changes. Layering is a smart choice as airplane cabins can be unpredictable in terms of temperature.

5. **Stretch and Move Regularly**

Sitting for extended periods can cause discomfort and stiffness. Make a conscious effort to stretch and move around the cabin at regular intervals. Simple exercises like ankle circles, shoulder rolls, and standing calf raises can promote blood circulation and reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

6. **Entertain Yourself with Media and Activities**

Keep boredom at bay by immersing yourself in various forms of entertainment. In addition to the preloaded content on your devices, bring puzzles, coloring books, or travel-sized board games to keep your mind engaged during downtime.

7. **Adjust to the Time Zone**

If you're crossing multiple time zones, prepare yourself by adjusting your sleep schedule a few days before the flight. Upon boarding, set your watch to the destination's time zone and try to sleep or stay awake accordingly to reduce jet lag's impact.

How to Choose the Best Cookbook: Your Ultimate Guide to Tasty Success

Introduction

Cooking is an art that delights both our taste buds and soul. And what better way to hone your culinary skills than with a trusty cookbook? But with a plethora of options available, choosing the best cookbook can be overwhelming. Fear not! In this guide, we'll provide you with valuable insights and tips to find the perfect cookbook that suits your taste, skill level, and culinary aspirations. Let's embark on this delicious journey to culinary success!

1. **Identify Your Cooking Style and Goals**

Begin your quest for the ideal cookbook by understanding your cooking style and goals. Are you a novice looking for easy-to-follow recipes, or an experienced cook seeking culinary challenges? Consider whether you want to explore specific cuisines or focus on dietary preferences like vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free recipes. Identifying your cooking goals will help narrow down the options and find a cookbook tailored to your needs.

2. **Read Reviews and Recommendations**

Before making a purchase, take advantage of the vast online resources available. Read reviews and recommendations from fellow food enthusiasts or professional chefs. Websites, blogs, and social media platforms often feature cookbook reviews and top picks, providing valuable insights into the book's content and its overall quality.

3. **Browse Through Sample Recipes**

Many cookbooks offer sample recipes online or in bookstores. Take the time to browse through these sample recipes to get a taste of what the cookbook has to offer. Check if the recipes seem clear, well-organized, and appetizing to you. This way, you can ensure that the cookbook aligns with your cooking skills and preferences.

4. **Assess the Cookbook's Layout and Design**

A well-designed cookbook can enhance your cooking experience significantly. Look for a cookbook with clear and visually appealing layouts, high-quality food photography, and easy-to-read fonts. An organized table of contents and index will also make it easier to navigate and find recipes when you need them.

5. **Consider the Author's Background**

The author's credentials and expertise play a crucial role in the cookbook's reliability. Research the author's culinary background, experience, and qualifications to gauge their credibility. Renowned chefs or experts in specific cuisines often produce cookbooks that are rich in culinary wisdom and creativity.

6. **Explore the Variety of Recipes**

A diverse range of recipes is the hallmark of a great cookbook. Check if the cookbook offers a mix of appetizers, mains, sides, desserts, and more. A well-rounded collection will not only keep your culinary journey exciting but also allow you to experiment and broaden your cooking skills.

7. **Size Matters: Consider the Cookbook's Practicality**

The size and weight of the cookbook matter, especially if you plan to use it regularly. A heavy, oversized cookbook may be challenging to handle in the kitchen. Opt for a cookbook that is compact, sturdy, and easy to prop up for quick reference while cooking.

Conclusion

Selecting the best cookbook for your culinary adventures is an exciting endeavor that should be approached with careful consideration. By identifying your cooking style, researching reviews, exploring recipes, and assessing the cookbook's design and author's expertise, you can make an informed decision. Remember, the best cookbook is one that not only inspires your creativity in the kitchen but also fills your dining table with delicious delights. Happy cooking!

Bollywood films, or web series, under the radar - are they able to motivate crimes?

By Rishika Shaw

It cannot be denied that Films/Web series are
highly impactful in today's world and
streaming services have a vast amount of
audience and assist Indians to showcase their
true talent. But several studies have found
that watching films and online streaming
content has direct or indirect effects on
youth. Approximately 41% of people believe
that crime-related content encourages
criminal activity in society.

Do you remember "Dexter", an American
series (2006)? The story showed that a boy
cut his lover's body into many small pieces.
In 2022, in a somewhat similar manner,
Aftab and Shraddha entered into a
relationship and started living together in
Delhi. He chopped Shraddha's body into 35
pieces. After murdering her, Aftab lived in
the same flat to avoid suspicion.
He bought a 300-liter fridge where he kept the body for 18 days.
Every night he would step out after 2
am to dump the body parts in forest areas
across Delhi. Later, a Delhi police source
revealed that Aftab had watched many crime
movies and web series including 'Dexter'
before committing the crime.
It's just one of many incidents where
someone committed a crime based on a
movie/web series.

In Uttar Pradesh, a guy named Ashwini
Kashyap, aka Johny Dada murdered a girl
named Nitika Sharma a Dubai-based flight
attendant whom he was obsessed with and
who was to get married to someone else, after
the crime, Kashyap reportedly posted a video
on his Tiktok that recites popular dialogue
from the film Kabir Singh, "Jo Mera Nahi ho
Sakta, use Kisi aur ke hone ka mauka nahi doonga".
There were several other crimes
related to the film 'Kabir Singh'. Though the
film does not promote murder, glorifying
such an aggressive figure has not pleased
many. The movie was already the subject of
controversy over its glorification of toxic
masculinity, and this latest incident has
created many more.

But this occurrence again puts Bollywood
films, or web series, under the radar - are
they able to motivate crimes?

A professor, said
"Definitely to a great extent. The public is the
consumer. They are not only watching it for
entertainment. They are consuming it. They imitate what is shown there. In these movies where so much aggressiveness, misconduct,
and misbehavior is shown, people take it as a
correct step and follow it. Secondly, It also
depends on the fan following the actor, as
people follow their idol without realizing that
they're playing a character in a movie.

The answer falls in both the zone
negative as well as positive.

Bartik Saha, a graphic designer, said, "But as
per some climax, it also creates an
unforgettable fear among people how
murderers or criminals are treated if they get
arrested."

"Content should be the way that teaches the
audience and changes society. It can be really
what is happening in the society but also
filmmakers should think about what impact it
can happen on the audience." Said the professor.

However, there are legitimate worries
about violent information. Because the
positive effects outweigh the negatives, it
is our responsibility to select the right
content for the right audience and to
protect young minds from vulgar content.
Censoring and controlling this type of
content might help people avoid
becoming victims of abuse or violence, as
well as offenders.
